History if Vigilantism

So it was up to the citizens to keep justice. .
Vigilantes can still be found today in all cultures of the world. In the Middle East, where it is very prominent, everyday accidents can turn into chaos. For example, someone is walking along, they trip on something, and they fall on a child and kill him. The possibility stands that the child's father could skip the police and kill you in the name of his son. Is this right? In American culture, probably not, but in their country maybe it is become accustom for this sort of action. .
Vigilante groups are also seen in modern day America. One very renowned group is the Ku Klux Klan or the KKK. The Klan started in 1865 and their primary goals were the terrorize minorities especially blacks (School). The Klan is a vigilante group because they went above the governed law and did as they pleased. They had no respect for the law and were focused on meeting their goals. This is unacceptable because their motives for vigilantism were completely illegitimate. If there was some legitimate reason for their actions then it could be justified, but there was no reason and is thus considered wrong. The Klan's problem is that they had no justifiable reason for their actions. Saying that the white race is superior does not allow them to go and murder minorities. Now if one of the minorities did something to them then that would be up for consideration, but not when the law is available to carry out proper justice. Now if the law enforcement or the court system does not deal with it in a just manner, then justice is due. Then they could give justice to whomever. .
Another modern day vigilante was Timothy McVeigh. Timothy McVeigh was responsible for the bomb that blew up the Alfred P. Murrah building in Oklahoma City in 1995. He was unhappy with the government and was angered by the events at Waco, Texas. He planted the bomb in an effort to fight for American's freedom, as he saw the American Government as a big bully for the American people.
