It took one year for the bus companies to realize that they should actually desegregate the busses even if they don't want to because they are losing a lot of money. A majority of the people that ride the busses are blacks. This paper will talk about the segregation in schools and living places between the blacks and white, unemployment and job hardships for the blacks, and hate and racism towards blacks from hate groups. This paper will prove how racism has decreased in the past 10 years in America since the 1950's and 1960's. .
In the 1950's and 1960's, segregation between blacks and whites was everywhere you went. Up until the mid 1960's, all schools across America were segregated. White students went to the nearest school while black students had to go further away from home just to get their education, sometimes miles and miles away. According to Scholastic Action, "There was a time when segregation (separation of different races) was legal for schools in some states. This meant that African - American and white students were not allowed to go to the same schools" (Nieman, 23). Most of the time black students would have to go out of their way just to go to school. The African Americans were getting a second class education. They had books that were in bad conditions and schools that were in bad conditions too. The government or state wouldn't do anything about the colored schools. They did not care about it. Another act of segregation was the bus lines. Blacks would have to sit in the back of the bus while whites got to sit in the front of the bus. The writer for "World Book Encyclopedia" states, "King's civil rights activities began with a protest of Montgomery's segregated bus system in 1955. That year, a black passenger named Rosa Parks was arrested for disobeying a city law requiring that blacks give up their seats on buses when white people wanted to sit in their seats or in the same row.
