Firefighter

m. and continuous on until 4:30 p.m. The next day it all happens again. "Drill school is like the boot camp from hell" (Goodman 2). Tracy Goodman has been a firefighter in the city of Boston Massachusetts for the last twelve years. In these eight years he has reached the Chief level. Drill school is an eight-hour a day training session; these sessions go on for fourteen weeks. Here they perform ordinary exercises, from push-ups to two-mile runs. Then they practice fighting fires dealing with hazardous materials or any other situation, which they may encounter in a real life situation. Training for eight hours a day is bad enough, but doing it in a fifty pound suit in ninety-eight degree weather is even worst.
The few that manage to pass all of the tests and endure the drill school are eligible for graduation. But this is up to their instructors to decide, if they think the cadet is capable of doing a good job and being a responsible firefighter. I said the few that make it because only one out of every twenty-four people who go out to become firefighters actually graduate and become firefighters (Lee 125). Richard S. Lee has researched statistics in several occupations, firefighting being one of those occupations researched. Lee has concluded that the odds to become a firefighter are harder than those to become a police officer, because enduring drill school does not guarantee you a certificate, and enduring the police academy does. The challenging training and the excruciating works outs of drill school are not the only things preventing a person from becoming a firefighter. The life threatening situations a firefighter gets involved in is another set back for firefighters to be.
A person looking for an occupation that pays a lot of money is not likely to work in an occupation involving life threatening situations. A gold digger is looking for an easy job to do, which will pay them a lot of money.
