Multiple Personality Disorder

This personality is the most helpful in therapy because they usually know all about the other identities. .
It was first recognized in the early 1800's but nobody understood it, so it was forgotten. There were many cases that showed up throughout the years but in 1905 a man by the name of Cr. Morton wrote a book about Multiple Personalities, and then at that time it became the founder for that disorder.
A few years after the book was written, Sigmund Freud, a famous Psychologist dismissed the disorder and dropped it from being discussed at any of the health meetings. Since then the disorder has been overlooked and misdiagnosed as either schizophrenia or psychosis. Many in the medical profession did not believe that it was possible for a person to have more than one personality. In 1995 records showed that there were more than three thousand patients being diagnosed with Multiple Personality Disorder, compared to the hundred cases that were recorded ten years earlier. .
             .
When it comes to MDP there are two different types of opinions in regards to the disorder. There are the Skeptic's and there are the Believer's. The Skeptic's believe that MDP is a Psychological fad. The Believer's believe that it is a very serious public mental health problem. Also when it comes to the Believer's there are two types, the first type is Secular Believer's which believe that MDP is quite common and that it occurs naturally and is unrelated to child abuse. These people are usually Humanistic Therapists, and Feminist Councilors. The second type of Believer is the Religious Believer's they are usually Roman Catholic's, Fundamentalist's, and other Evangelical Christians, and they believe that MDP is a by product of demon possession that can only be cured through exorcism. .
MPD is mostly found in adults who were, in their past, abused mentally, physically, emotionally, or sexually as young children, usually between birth and the age of eight.
