Decriminalization of Marijuana

             Marijuana does not create the feeling of being "high" by killing brain cells. It has temporary effects on receptors in your brain "tickling" it. The effects unlike alcohol are not permanent. Short term effects of marijuana depend on the user's experience as well as: how strong the marijuana is (amount of THC), what the user expects to happen, place where drug is being used, how It is taken, and whether the user has consumed alcohol or any other drugs. Short term effect also vary, depending on the user but may include problems with memory and learning, distorted perception, trouble with thinking and problem solving, loss of coordination, and an increased hear rate. .
             It is impossible to become physically addicted to marijuana. It is also physically impossible to overdose on marijuana. It takes about forty thousand times the amount of marijuana to get high to overdose. Nobody could inhale that much marijuana without the first doses wearing off. Unlike cigarettes, marijuana does not contain nicotine, which causes high levels of cancer. Not one case of lung cancer has been documented resulting in the use of marijuana. Nobody, in over ten thousand years has ever died from using marijuana as a substance. Approximately one hundred and fifty thousand deaths per year are related to cigarettes and nearly four hundred thousand deaths per year are related to alcohol. Studies have also show that sixty-five to seventy percent of all crimes are alcohol related. .
             Terry Parker, a forty-four year-old man from Toronto made legal history when the Ontario Court of Appeal struck down the federal criminal law banning marijuana announcing that it fails to permit medical use of the drug. Judgement gave Ottawa one year to revise the law, or growing and possessing marijuana will remain to be a crime in Canada. Parker smokes cannabis for medical reasons. He says it is far more effective than medicine in controlling epileptic seizers that he has had since the age of four.
