The death penalty is cruel and unusual punishment. To extinguish a person's life is cruel no matter what way it is done. Many states believe it is OK to execute someone since they have an upgraded traditional electric chair to the more modern Lethal injection. Anyway of executing someone is unjust. According to Amnesty International's website against the death penalty the latest information shows that: 55 countries have abolished the death penalty for all crimes, 15 countries have abolished the death penalty for all but exceptional crimes such as the wartime crimes, 27 countries can be considered abolitionists because they maintain the death penalty in law but have not carried out any executions for the past 10 years. A total of 97 countries have abolished the death penalty in law or practice. Although 97 other countries maintain and use the death penalty, the number of countries, that actually executes prisoners in a year, is much smaller.There is always the chance of an innocent person being in the wrong place at the wrong time. A handful of evidence from a strong lawyer could sentence someone to the death penalty. That person does not deserve to serve the punishment that is not rightfully there's and take the blame for it. If a loved one is murdered and their family feels justice in having the murderer killed in the same way is the death penalty fair in that case? Instead, the murderer should stay alive and pay physically and mentally for the crime committed. Execution is like letting the criminal go trouble-free. Even though the murder loses his life, he did not feel the pain and grief he caused. It is like the murderer gets to walk away from what he did and leave behind the wrong he has done. Also, two wrongs do not make a right. The murderer took a life, something he cannot give back and taking the murderer's life is pointless because that is just another life that is taken.
