A large problem in the United States of America and the rest of the world is the increase number of people with that disease called obesity. We all have and need fat tissue in our bodies. When there is too much body fat, the result is obesity. Obesity According to the American Obesity Association's on line web site. "Obesity is a disease that affects nearly one-third of the adult American population (approximately 60 million). The number of overweight and obese Americans has continued to increase since 1960, a trend that is not slowing down. Today, 64.5 percent of adult Americans (about 127 million) are categorized as being overweight or obese. Each year, obesity causes at least 300,000 excess deaths in the U.S., and healthcare costs of American adults with obesity amount to approximately $100 billion." The facts and figures just shown explain that this disease is very deadly. People need to take obesity very seriously. A big group of people that are affected by this disease is children. .
The number of children in the United States suffer from this disease has grown dramatically in recent years tat it has been a nation wide problem. According to the article entitled "Raising Fit Kids In A Fattening World" About nine million US kids are overweight or obese. MD, PhD William Dietz says "There is no question that this has reached epidemic proportions. Since 1980, the percentage of American children who are overweight has doubled, and the percentage of adolescents who are overweight has nearly tripled." These numbers show that this is a big problem and that parents need to make sure their children eat in all the proper ways. Soda, chips, and candy with lots of sugar are favorites for young children to consume. Human bodies do need sugar in their bodies, but not so much where it affects the weight of the children. Obesity is not a one sided problem. Both the parents and the child need to seek help if they are overweight or obese.
