For example, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob all are given life spans of well over one hundred years each (pg 35). Not only is a life span of over one hundred years quite rare nowadays; but for those time periods the life span was no longer than 30 or 40 I"m sure. Two parts of the Bible indicate that Exodus took place four hundred and eighty years before construction of the temple of Jerusalem and the fact that Israelites were enslaved four hundred and thirty years before Exodus concludes that two hundred years are overlapped in the lifespan of the patriarchs, concluding that it was 2100 BC when Abraham left for Canaan. Also, at the time of Genesis there is no proven population movement in which the "Amorite migration" occurred. Another contradiction with the time of the patriarchs includes the mentioning of using "gum, balm and myrrh" which were really not traded with the Arabians until the 7th century BC, conflicting with the fact that the actual even were supposed to happen hundreds of years earlier. In fact, those items were supposedly carried by the beasts of burden, camels, but the camels were not domesticated until well after 1000 B.C. (pg 38). It seems as if the stories of the patriarchal period are myths and traditions woven together to produce a beginning for the story, although the chronology is not completely concise or correct. .
Secondly, the story of the Exodus was also proven false by Silberman and Finklestein. For one, there is no mention of any Egyptian pharaohs by name, nor is there any mention of the Egyptian forts in Canaan or northern Sinai. The Exodus actually reflects more or less the time surrounding the Iron Age, around 700 BC when the story was written (pg 65). The authors do not specifically state that the Exodus never indeed happened, just simply not at the time in which it was proclaimed to have. Furthermore proving the story occurred in the 7th century is the names of the Egyptians mentioned in the story of Joseph.
