He also worked for the a Communist paper called Der Rote Knupple from 1923 to 1927. In 1932, Grozs moved to the United States because he was not able to live in a country where the Nazi would probably take control of. He spent most of his life in the United States doing works of art that would never been as socially conscious as the works he did in Germany. He return to Berlin in 1958 where he died. .
Historic.
After World War 1, Germany passed through an important political and economic crisis. A revolution in Germany occurred, it passed from a monarchy to a democratic republic. A new constitution was written and Germany's society lived in a total disorder. During the Weimar republic, name given to the revolution in Germany, many new political parties appeared. Most of the parties were from the right or the left which is totally the opposite. From there came the countless political disorders. These conflicts between the fascism and communism led the people and especially the artists to think more critically about the society and his problem. For George Grosz ,who was native from Berlin, being an artist at this time was probably being a leader in telling in his art what people truly think of the society. The Weimar republic was dominated by violence, alcohol and cheap sex. The high class of people were spending their nights in cabarets, drinking, playing, spending their money and searching for cheap sex, while the rest of the society was living in a constant poverty. The obvious corruption of the society's leaders and especially the poverty of the rest of Germany led many artist to protest against the high class. The society wanted changes but was unable to speak. So, artists like George Grozs started doing art in which clear messages were passing through. Artist called the society to think critically on what was happening to Germany and especially in the streets of Berlin for Grozs.
