Religion Vs. Technology

They know of no other gods or religions only those passed down from their ancestors. .
In the west before transportation or information technology people were in the dark. They knew of no alternate means other than what was available to them. For instance, they were used to traveling by boat across the Atlantic Ocean. It might take a week, but that was ok because there was no other way to travel. To take a trip across town one might use a horse and buggy. An hour trip in the cold by buggy was expected. At the time this was probably considered technologically advanced. Information technology was similar in that information about other parts of the world could be conveyed with photos, books, and stories. Events that happened in other states or countries could be communicated by messenger, and could take some time to become public. This was the only means of information and travel available at the time, and people were content with what they had, but were isolated from many parts of the world. .
When the Christian missionaries came to the village to convert, they essentially opened their eyes, and brought them out of the state of isolation. At first, the people were reluctant to accept the ideas of the church, and the white man. Eventually, most of the village identified with the new philosophy. The Christians talked of treating neighbors and genders as equals, and living in harmony with others. Their ideas were written in a book that could be studied and taught by a preacher. There was a church, a bible, and converts could move up in the church and even become a preacher. They were offered a chance to help themselves as well as other people, and earn salvation in heaven. The Christian missionaries focused mainly on the treatment of people, how to live a fulfilling life, and ultimately become a better person. .
When technology took off in the west, people that were once isolated became united.
