             The signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act, combined with changes in societal attitudes, supplied the necessary steps in motivating people with disabilities towards recognition and independence. People with disabilities recognize the fact that they are different people, with diverse backgrounds, and are often isolated from others with disabilities( VSA arts: Disability Culture). The disability experience brings persons with disabilities together, instilling pride in its members who actively recruit younger generations. Disabled in Action is a group who fought for elevators in subway stations and against telethons to aid the disabled, which it regards as hopelessly paternalistic. The disabled singers perform songs such as "Let the Children Stare" to convey the message that nothing beneficial , and certainly nothing is served by ignoring disabilities. Advocacy groups feel that mutual affirmation replaces individual denial.              The disability culture is a movement that embraces disability as a necessary valued part of people's lives. Artists with disabilities generate art, music, literature and other expressions of emotions that reflect their experience (VSA arts: Disability Culture).
             Ethical issues are likely to arise when there is a clash in view points between what parents or the community wants and what the professional views as needed. I feel that we must work at understanding and respecting both perspectives.
