             Chapter V: Hester at Her Needle.
             A few months later Hester is released from prison. She is free now but stays in Boston. She moves into an abandon cabin on the outskirts of the town. Hester makes an ok living by her fine needlework and many people wear the clothes Hester makes. She still feels lonely and knows the people are avoiding her. Even though she is lonely she still does charity work and still makes clothes for other people.
             Chapter VI: Pearl.
             Pearl is what keeps Hester from giving up from day to day. Pearl is symbolized with a rose because even though there was a crime committed while making her she is still a beautiful human being. Pearl is and outcast with her mother because anything the people think her mother is the associate with Pearl. Pearl knows about the sin her mother committed and this is one reason she has no friends so she makes her own imaginary friends to keep her company. Pearl is always messing with the letter on Hester's chest and is always asking questions about it. This makes Hester wonder if Pearl really is a demon child like the townspeople says she is. Pearl is very understanding about the situation she must deal with.

             Chapter VII: The Governor's Hall.
             .
             Pearl must go to Governor Bellingham's mansion to give him a pair of ornate gloves she made for him. She also need to go to find out if the rumor of them taking Pearl away from her is true. On the way a bunch of kids throw mud at them but Pearl gets angry and scares them off. They get to the mansion and inside are family portraits and armor, which the governor wore in battles with the Native Americans. Pearl is interested with the armor. Pearl sees Hester's reflection in the armor and points and Hester sees her scarlet letter. She thinks the scarlet letter stands out and is very noticeable. Pearl starts crying because she wants a rose from the bush outside the window but is quickly quieted.
