Bhaviorism

This is classical conditioning because petting my cat is the unconditioned stimulus while the unconditioned response is the cat purring. While the conditioned stimulus is myself walking through the door and the conditioned response is the purring that comes from the cat. .
             3. In both examples this is classical conditioning because you are using your autonomic nervous system. This means that you are being conditioned to have a physiological response towards something. In the first example David is making me feel very uncomfortable and I am getting the chills, these are both physiological responses that are produced in the autonomic nervous system. In the second example the cat has a physiological response towards the idea of me walking through the door. The cat's physiological response is the excitement he gets when he sees me walking in through the front door. All these physiological responses are again done in the autonomic nervous system.
             4. Stimulus generalization is when in the first example in David's car I have my conditioned stimulus being the sight of the car however it becomes generalization when my conditioned response is it does not matter what car I get into, I"m still going to feel the chills and be uneasy about the temperature. My conditioned stimulus is going to be generalized but my conditioned response is going to have the same reaction. In the second example my cat has the conditioned stimulus of seeing myself walk through the front door however my cat could generalize his conditioned stimulus with anyone who walks through the front door but his conditioned response will still be the same. My cat will still start to purr whenever someone walks through the front door. .
Stimulus discrimination can occur in my case. For example if I could discriminate against only David's car instead of all cars. My conditioned stimuli can only be activated when I see David's car, however if I saw my best friends car I would not have the same type of condition response (increased heart beat and chills) that I do have when I see David's car.
