The Struggle of Immigrants in the U.S.A.

It is one of the international languages, a tool of communication between countries, companies and organizations. However, many of the Hispanic American parents or family members take this for granted. These parents and family members tend to force their children into first learning their native language and culture before learning English and the American Culture. Indeed, this can be a disadvantage for many of the Hispanic American children growing up in the United States. .
In Miami, I have noticed throughout my years in this country that many of these Hispanic Americans affected by the arrogance of their parents have suffered to progress in school. For instance, two friends that I met in fourth grade were only able to learn English when they reached high school (both were born in this country). The reason was that their parents kept sending them back to Brazil every 6 months throughout their whole childhood. This prevented them of extensively learning both languages, English and Portuguese; and ended in a very similar case of the "Spanglish" language that many of the Hispanic Americans speak in Miami today. .
For this reason, these "arrogant" parents need to understand that now they are living in a different country, a different world. No one is telling them to forget about their language and culture, all they need to do is accept the new language and culture found in the United States. Without a doubt, their children and grand-children will have the pleasure of discovering their parents and family's culture and language after they succeed in learning the culture of their new home. A great example is the Hispanic American author Julia Alvarez, which after mastering in her primary language and making it useful by becoming a successful author, never denied her Hispanic background. .
However, Julia Alvarez and many other successful Hispanic American women are exceptions to what really goes on in this and many other societies.
