             destruction of many plantations and plus the fact that many southerners had to sell .
             their land that they had to pay off the debts that they owed. The major increasing of .
             factories being built and technology being used brought about many job openings. .
             People were coming from all over because they need workers to work in these .
             constantly expanding industries as well as people to operate the new machinery. More .
             people coming over was a good thing for the most part because it meant more workers .
             and more people to buy the products that were being produced. As the U.S. continued .
             to grow businesses became monsters of certain industries. The people who headed .
             these large businesses were once known as entrepreneurs who were people who took .
             responsibilities for organization and operation of a new business venture and often-.
             risked large sums of venture capital in hopes of making enormous profit. Now they .
             were on top of their businesses that were in lots of cases making millions. This brought .
             about the rise of new types of businesses. The most noticeable were corporations which .
             was a business in which many investors own shares, monopolies which were .
             companies that had complete control over a particular kind of business like the E.C. .
             Knight Sugar Company, and conglomerates which was the merger of a group of .
             unrelated companies like General Electric. Also around this time there were many .
             viewpoints about how business should be operated and the people who were less .
             fortunate. Many people at this time believed in Laissez - Faire which was a French .
             phrase that basically meant free enterprise which basically means to do as you please .
             when it comes down to business.
