Persoanlly, as much I hated life throughmy teenage years "I want to die, wish I was never born, blah blah", I'm kinda glad I wasn't aborted. It was accepted a lot less back when I was concieved, regardless, I'm still glad I wasn't.
Is abortion a crime? I do believe that it is a requirement at times. Without a doubt there are times when a child should be aborted- if it is going to kill the mother to have it, then yes it should go. If it may have a chance at life, but it will most likely kill the mother, then keep the mother.
Gray areas that I am not entriely clear on how I stand are children of rape and children who will be born with serious defects that will forver screw up their lives. In the rape case, no one wants the child- the father can't have it, he's either in gaol or long gone. The mother very rarely wants it, if she does, it is normally to abuse it, take out her hatred at the father upon the child. Is it fair to make the woman carry something for 9 months that should not exist and will at best be a target of hatred? .
Defective children. What to do there? If the child is going to be born a vegetable or horribly mangled, would it be better for the child to simply never fully eventuate? I am not sure on that. I've discussed it with my better half, our conclusion more or less was we would keep said child and just try and do for it what we could. Personally, I'd not advocate abortion in this case, but the decision is < half mine if it ever eventuates, so I just hope it never does.
Where I stand strongly against abortion is as a 'contraceptive' measure. "Oops, I didn't want to have a child. lets murder it". I know someone who had 5 abortions within a couple of years. 5. Think about that for a moment. The reason? She was too stupid to use any kind of contraceptive and her boyfriend didn't like condoms. Diaphram? Pill? Morning after Pill? Rythm method even? Nope. Just bonk away, 'oh I'm pregant AGAIN, let's get an abortion'.
