There is a serious pollution problem facing people today, created by gasoline motor vehicles. Electric cars have been looked at as a possible solution, but are they viable? Today, the automobile has become our major source of mass transportation. The common gasoline powered vehicles have greatly contributed to the impurity of our environment. One prominent alternative of fueled vehicles is the electric car.
Unlike electric vehicles, gasoline fueled motor vehicles create more pollution than any other human-made machines. Air pollution is recognized as a major health hazard, and kills between 60,000 and 120,000 people each year. I am appalled by these devastating statistics, and believe that something must be done. Gas powered vehicles account for 90% of the Carbon Monoxide pollutants and 67% of other major air pollution. Continual exposure to these pollutants can cause a variety of symptoms and aggrieve existing medical conditions. Alternative means of transportation must be looked at, such as electric vehicles in order to reduce the pollution levels.

If electric vehicles were introduced on a global scale, urban pollution would improve significantly. It is estimated that they"re 98% cleaner than gasoline vehicles, with a zero tailpipe emission. The emission of electric vehicles is only water, which is a renewable resource. The batteries used in electric cars are a lot safer and environmentally friendly. They do not use gasoline or oil that poison the soil or the air, as they rust away in junk yards. Electric vehicles would also greatly reduce heavy reliance on the crude oil imports. .
Electric cars are not only more beneficial to the environment, there are other benefits. The cost of re-furbishing a used car would be noticeably cheaper and smoother than buying a brand new car. The engine and battery of an electric car would last much longer than a gasoline powered car. Maintenance would also be more cost effective, just water the batteries once every couple of months.
