Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone.
The time era Harry Potter was in was in the late 1990's in England, but it was never confirmed in the book. In the beginning the house Harry lives in is on Privet Drive in Surrey, England and the setting is soon transferred to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. "Logically it [Hogwarts] had to be set in a secluded place, and pretty soon I settled on Scotland in my mind. I think it was in subconscious tribute to where my parents had married. People keep saying they know what I based Hogwarts on--but they"re all wrong. I have never seen a castle anywhere that looks the way I imagine Hogwarts" (Rowling, 1). Hogwarts is a very strange castle most likely located in Scotland. It has many changing staircases, secret passages, and hidden doors. It is the school Harry and both of his parents attended. Mrs. Rowling designed the book to be in the third person point of view, it is not being told in the first person.
Harry is the hero and protagonist of the book. Orphaned as a one-year-old baby, his aunt and uncle, the Dursleys, raise him. Harry was mistreated by them and tormented by their obnoxious and rude son Dudley. Harry is marked by the battle between good and evil that caused a scar to be inflicted upon him due to the standoff between the evil Voldemort and his parents who died to save their son. He is the type of person that would put himselft at risk to help another in trouble. Harry is skinny, with stingy black hair, and has bright green eyes. As he matures, he is discovered to be caring, very brave, a loyal friend, and an excellent Quidditch player. His lack of desires makes him a hero. His achievement of true friendship by the end of the book, his overcoming of early loneliness, is almost as inspiring as his defeat of an evil wizard.
The antagonist and villain of the story is Voldemort, a body less spirit forced to live off of Professor Quirrel.
