The destructors


             The protagonists of the story are the gang, because it's about them, the gang as group, on how the war has affected each of them inside, even if they might not know it, tiring down a two hundred year old house isnt what a bunch of kids usually do as a favorite pastime. Inside, while the house stands erect like a top hat while all the other houses around it has collapsed after the bombing, its like a symbol of high society and beautiful, Trevor knows if not for the war, he could be living a rich life, instead, he has to join gangs and his father have to work as a clerk, giving him a hatred for higher class society. Their goal would be to release their feelings, anger, creative instincts, thru destroying the house. Thus, the antagonist would be society. .
             2. Suspense is created throughout the story with several paragraphs and sentences, for example, the first two paragraphs, with the author sets suspense into the story by foreshadowing Trevor, or T. a new recruit to the Wormsley Common Gang, was to become the leader, but doesnt reveal how. There is no withheld of information in the story, and things are just revealed as the story progresses. Another example of suspense is wondering how the group of kids will be organized to bring down the house like "worms in an apple".
             3. The story lacks a lot of the mindless violence found in other commercial fiction type stories. Nor is there any trance of evidence that the conflict be man versus man. Also, the protagonist doesnt achieve their goal at the end of the story. The story has an open ending, at the end of the story; we dont know what happens to the gang in the end.
             4. a) They want to tear down the house because its beautiful, in a area where everything else was destroyed, to them it symbolized the higher class, they hated it. b) Blackie wanted a piece of the fame the gang would get if they were to take down the house. c) They are serious because they all believe in what theyre doing, they werent told to do it, they want to it.
