If something does happen to a person and the they have to have surgery, anesthesia is safer than ever before. The main idea of this article is anesthesia is safer than it ever has been. The author, Steven C. Adamson, goes on to explain that more than 25 million surgical procedures goes on every year. The author says "the anesthesia you receive depends on your condition and the procedure you"re undergoing." Mr. Adamson then tells about the different types of anesthesia, like local anesthesia. Local anesthesia is used to numb small places of your body, such as a dentist uses's. Mr Adamson then tells about the second type of anesthesia witch is general anesthesia. general anesthesia is used for surgery so the patent will be unconscious and wont remember what happened. Mr. Adams then explains ways the patent can make sure the doctor wont give them the wrong types of drugs. The author explains that communication is important and the person should let the doctor know the following, their current medical status, any medications that they take, if they smoke or not, any allergies that they may have, and any previous experiences that they may have. To conclude Mr. Adamson explains that in the past decade doctors have been doing a lot of studies on anesthesia, the work has paid off. The author then goes on to say that "in the last decade alone, deaths due to anesthesia have dropped 25-fold, to 1 in 250,000." .
