You read about them in history books, you see them on television. You can find them in schools, and just standing in a room. They have a high standard of personal ethics, courage, committed to a goal, inspire enthusiasm, and a desire to help others to succeed. .
Leaders know that their actions and attitudes are examples to the people that they lead. They know that they can set the standard of conduct and the level of character for others to follow. They except the responsibility of being a mentor to others and cultivate the leadership process. He must exhibit physical and moral courage to apply it daily. .
A good example of both physical and moral courage is Mrs. Rosa Parks who refused to sit in the back of the bus in Montgomery, Alabama in 1954. It was this single act ignited the civil rights movement. She stood firm in the face of great physical danger. Her moral convictions that racism was going to end even if it had to start on that particular bus. Another example is Dr Martin Luther King Jr. who led an entire nation towards change and yet he never held an elected position in government. It was his leadership in the social issues that continue today. .
The next attribute a leader must possess to deal with social issues in commitment. We set an example through our own commitment to our core values, commitment to our service, commitment to the public he or she serves and commitment to our core values, commitment to service, commitment to the public and commitment to people. In other words, they are devoted to duty. This type of commitment requires hard work. It is this type of commitment that gives meaning to our lives. .
It is commitment like this that led Gladis Elywood to China when so many told her she was not qualified.
