Why Student's Today Are Under Prepared To Face Life?.
There was an athletic student who played basketball for my High school, but didn't know anything about anything. All he was a 6 feet 8 inch tall basketball star, who knew nothing but basketball. In his junior year of High school, the team made it to the semi-finals for the first time in God knows how many years. The reason for making the finals was this 6"8" star who wasn't suppose to be playing at all because of his well below 2.0 GPA. Even though 2.0 GPA was the minimum requirement in High school to compete in any sport, it didn't stop that young star. How did he do it?.
Well, it started out by him being 6"8" and a very talented basketball player. The coaches knew that they had no chance to win the semi-finals without this young star, so they decided to go talk to his teachers that were failing him to give a passing grade in order for him to play on the basketball team. The teachers knew that the school's reputation was on the line , so guess what the teachers did? They passed this failing student with an ease so the student could play on the team and bring home the championship. This is not fair to other students who try hard and have to live with what they receive, instead of stars that get false improved grades they don't deserve. Randy Moore, writer of "Grades and Self-Esteem", believes that students today are under prepared for the world and I totally agree with him. On top of that, I also believe that there are many other factors out there that lead up to this problem.
One reason I believe that students are under prepared today is because teachers go way too easy on them. Based on the story of the basketball star, he didn't even deserve to play, but teachers looked over that and passed him so he could make his school proud by winning the semi-finals. Teachers eliminated his failing grades and replaced them with passing grades that the student didn't even earn or work hard for.
This is partially due to the underprepared high school graduates entering community colleges. ... It would lead us further into Federal and State level debt, and with completion rates already so low at some community colleges, they would be flooded with even more underprepared enrollees. ...
