"Hunters in the Snow" was published in 1981 by Tobias Wolff. Tobias's creative short story was very fascinating to me. It was full of action and he really brought out each character in the story. Each character was represented with there own personalities and comedies.
I really enjoyed Hunters in the Snow. It reminded me of how to be true and honest to yourself and your friends. Tub, whom was one of the main characters in this story, was an overweight man who blames his fats on his "glands". He was the center of everyone's jokes, he was everyone's joke. His friends Kenney and Frank would make comments such as, "you haven't seen your own balls in ten years", and tub would reply back, "What am I supposed to do?" "It's my glands". He never wanted anyone to know he just loved to eat and couldn't control what he did eat. Kenney and Frank were too laid back guys with there own problems. Frank was a man who was in love with his sixteen year old babysitter and wanted to leave his wife for her. He just didn't know how to do it. This was his secret he kept from Tub. Kenney on the other hand, he was more of an unkind hearted man. He didn't impress me much in this story. I really didn't agree with his character to well. .
Throughout the whole story Frank and Kenney really teased Tub to the point were it got really old. When they picked up Tub and started on there journey to find a place to hunt it was really cold. The car window was busted out, so cold breezed swept over there whole bodies. Tub was complaining it was too cold. Frank and Kenney were irritated with his bitching and quoted, "stop bitching tub, get centered". "I wasn't bitching". "Centered", Kenney said "Next thing you"ll be wearing a nightgown Frank selling flowers out at the airport". "Kenney", Frank said "you talk too much". They did this throughout there whole trip; constantly bickering at each other, I guess that's part of what makes the story exciting.
