Having only a few select friends, I made due with whatever simple activities a normal hermit of a student would see asfun? activities. That would include playing with my computer, video games, and the use of other devices in the electronic genre. After that, college came along and the whole process of making friends began anew. At first I wanted to just go to school and head straight home afterwards to hang out with my friends, since they were all I knew. However, my saving grace came in the second week of my freshman year with Pi Alpha Phi fraternity. They took me in, showed me the ropes, and became my family away from home. This in turn helped me break out of my shell, and the popularity that I once dreamed about came with ease. Personally, I would consider the pledging process for the fraternity a FLOW experience. A FLOW experience, according to Csikszentmihalyi, is theNine main elements that were mentioned over and over again to describe how it feels when an experience is enjoyable (p.111).? Some of the elements that I experienced were that my goals were clear every step of the way and that immediate feedback of my actions were given. My performance during the various exercises was immediately determined by the reactions of the active brothers. Failure did not cross my mind; I was too involved in finishing what I started; which is another element to FLOW. In life, most things are Exotelic, meaning that we do things not because we enjoy them, but in order to achieve a goal. For example, work. Most of us do not enjoy working long hours, but we continue to do so to gain some cash for our daily needs. The money that we receive would be considered the goal. Ultimately, these experiences helped me to evolve into who I am in the present day.
This evolution into a more creative person can also deal with the certain environments where one feels the most creative. When, where and with who do I feel the most creative? I felt that when I'm exposed to outside ideas and visuals, my creativity was boosted because I incorporate all that I see and hear around me into whatever I am creating.
