deep sea exploration

Diving bell was actually looked like the bell and humans go inside of the bell to breath. Then, they dived and watched. You can easily imagine how short distance they can go and stay underwater. Similarly, diving helmet is the helmet that human can cover the face and the tube that attached to the helmet pumped oxygen into the helmet. Today, we have very same kind of apparatus that is called diving hard suits that is evolved from the diving helmet. In 1930s, the oldest submersibles appeared on the record in the U.S.A. (2). This was called Bathysphere and created by William Beebe and Otis Barton. William Willy Beebe was also an inventor of the diving helmet. As the name indicates, bathysphere looked like a ball-typed submersible. It could contain two people, go to 922 meters at maximum, and stay under the ocean 3 hours and 30 minutes at maximum. It could allow the scientists to observe the under sea through the glass window, but it had a lots of problems. First of all, bathysphere was too weak to be under the sea, so it had a big pipeline that connected to the mother ship that did not allow the submersible to be poured. Additionally, it also had a tube that pumped oxygen inside the vehicle. Due to those several lines, bathysphere was limited to move. However, this contrivance set fires to the next generations that we could go deeper if we could improve the skills. .
             .
Based upon the mistakes of bathysphere, in 1952, Bathyscaphe is privately constructed in the U.S.A. Bathyscaphe means deep boat and is also called Trieste. The so-called parents of the submersibles Auguste Piccard and his son Jacques Piccard invented Trieste. What epoch-making of it was that Trieste took advantage of the gasoline that is lighter than water for its buoyancy. About two-thirds of the weight was filled with it. So, when Trieste went deeper it was used to speed up to descend by throwing away some gasoline. After 8 years that was built, on January 23rd, Auguste Piccard and Lieutenant Don Walsh, U.
