Human relationships exist everywhere from our everyday lives to our dreams at night. Relationships can work very effortlessly or often become extremely complicated. The associations and general human interactions included in life will always affect the outcome of one's destiny. .
In the first story, "Father", we see how the father changes his personality as he becomes older. In the beginning, the father portrays himself as a man with anger management problems, caused by the stress of supporting a family aided with his friends and their chokecherry wine. As the story progresses, the father's image is illustrated as a roughneck, he trims his fingernails with a hunting knife, shaves every third day and chews snuff. These attributes assist him with his prolonged working days in the freezing winter. In the closing stages, the father is an elderly man, free from the inhospitable working conditions and experiencing life without any constant strain. This story has opened my eyes to see the pressure on one's life to raise a family under these uncongenial conditions. As the father was in his middle ages, he sought for his child to be someone the child was not and this caused the father stress. When the father becomes elderly, the outcome of his child's life seems to have dissipated from his lifelong aspirations. The impact seems to have the greatest consequence on the father as his ideologies and values changed. Conversely, the child's behavior did not alter after the dad's actions.
In the second story, "Mother and Son", we examine the actions of two individuals and how they interact through their relationship. The story starts out as the mother and son meet in a room holding a party for the mom's friends. As the mother plays with her son's hair, there is no verbal communication between the two, however a significant amount of detail clearly explains their loving interaction. The mother and son exchange smiles and this act brings the mother a confident sense of power.
