Serial Killers have been a part of our countries history as far as records .
The average serial killer is a white male from a lower to middle class .
background (Scott 4). The killer is usually in his twenties or thirties. Many were .
physically or emotionally abused by their parents. As children, future serial .
killers often set fires, tortured animals, and wet their beds. Some are very .
intelligent while others may suffer from brain damage. They are also very .
fascinated by police and other authorities. The killer is also usually a stranger to .
his victim. However, a serial killer, appears to look and behave like a normal .
person. Every serial killer is an individual; however, they all share the similar .
traits and habits. Some kill differently than the others. They use different .
methods. And they target different victims.
Serial killers have tested out a number of excuses as to why they kill. .
Henry Lucas blamed his upbringing. Jeffrey Dahmer said that he was born with .
a part of him missing. Ted Bundy claimed that pornography made him do it .
(Scott 3). The son of Sam, David Berkowitz, said that a dog spoke to him and .
told him to kill. Herbert Mullin, blamed voices in his head that told him it was .
time to kill again. Carl Panzam said that prison turned him into a serial killer. .
Bobby Joe Long claimed that a motorcycle accident made him hypersexual and .
eventually a serial killer. John Wayne Gacy however, blamed his victims and .
said that they all deserved to die. Most serial killers get a sexual thrill from .
killing. It arouses them in a way that nothing or no one else can. Others may do .
it out of anger. They may have been hurt by someone at one time in their life, .
and target people who may resemble the person who hurt them. Others do it .
out of homosexual urges. They may have homosexual urges and not be able to .
comprehend why. It could be because they don't want to accept the fact that .
they may be gay. Every killer has his own motives.
