Scott Fitzgerald's novel " The Great Gatsby- he deals with parting, drinking, and fazade type of lives of those who lived in the 1920's. He uses all of the characters to express this idea, but he does even more so with Daisy Buchanan. She is the perfect character to show that money can run peoples lives, because she is a product of old money, and that's the only way she can be happy the emptiness of her character behind a fazade of charm and money. Money even took the place of love for Daisy. .
Daisy is a product of old money, so she has lived her whole life being happy souly because of money and wealth. Nick was a product of new money, and he stated "And now I was looking at it again, through Daisy's eyes.""(110) Which meant that he was starting to understand Daisy's life and why she is the kind of person that she is and act the way she acts. There was some kind of justification behind Daisy's thoughts and actions to him because he knew everything that was going on with her husband, Tom and Myrtle, but ironically Daisy did not. She was so consumed with her life style that she for got how to truly live life. And what's really sad is that she is going to pass this thinking mentality on to her daughter. She tells Nick, "That's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.""(21) Daisy says this right after her daughter is born, and by this she wants her to live life and be totally nave. She wants her to live for the money, and live the life of wealth.
The emptiness of her character behind a fazade of charm and money was also a very important aspect of this novel. It was all about Daisy being completely nave in the story line. She never suspected that Tom was cheating and what made her "Daisy- is that she never wanted to know, because she was happy as long as she had money. "Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay.""(83) And Gatsby wanted to keep her in this unknowing world, because of the love that he had for her.
