Stress in Psychology

Stress has the ability to do many things to a person's body and their health. Whether or not the stress is eustress or distress, the person needs to deal with it in a productive and constructive way. In this case, I wanted to talk about stress in general and its affects on the body. When a person experiences stress, their body releases two types of hormones into the blood stream to prepare and help them get through a stressful encounter or situation. The two hormones are epinephrine and nor epinephrine and are developed within the nervous tissue. These hormones are produced to increase heart rate, blood pressure, blood glucose level, O2 intake, and working the body's muscles to the limits, which can tire the person out tremendously. If that happens, the body's immune system will fatigue and cannot fight off the foreign substances or bacteria it encounters.
The thing that is so amazing about the body is how it is able to maintain homeostasis, but like anything else it has its limits. The body's immune system constantly tires to maintain balance but it tries to focus on everything and work harder when hormones from the adrenal medulla glands are released. Granted there are cells that fight off bacteria and viruses, but they work best when aided with the entire immune system intact. The immune system may produce an over excessive amount of hormones, but it also might cause the body to attack itself. Either way, stress will affect the body in negative ways if you allow it to prolong. The lymphocytes in the blood run throughout the entire body like security guards patrolling. The epinephrine and nor epinephrine acts like a stampede that surges throughout the entire body stream. If the "stampede" takes over, the "security guards" are unable to get things under complete control until everything settles down.
Besides the body being internally tired when stress occurs, the body can also become externally tired.
