Stem Cell Research in Modern Science.
Science has come a long way in the past few years. Computers are computing and counting faster than ever, and every day we learn more about ourselves and the world we live in. The debate over whether human embryos should be used as stem cells in human research has carried on throughout the last five years. Just recently, however, there have been major breakthroughs in the genetic area of science. We are now closer than ever to solving such mysterious diseases such as cancers blood diseases. Stem cell research can be a powerful tool in genetic science, and it must be utilized.
Through much genetic research, scientists have discovered that human embryos contain the entire strand of DNA. From this any cell of any part of the body can be created. The purpose of furthering research of these stem cells is to find out how each cell 'knows' what it is to become. We as scientists must learn to influence that action or growth. Once we answer this question, we can re-grow these healthy cells in human organs and in the blood replacing the old, possibly cancerous cells.
Much of this debate is concerned with the fact that possibly a human being is having its chance at life taken away. In order to properly argue this, one must have a position on whole new topic. When does life begin? There are many different answers to this question. Theories about the beginning of life ranges from the moment of fertilization to the moment of birth. But there is a midpoint. Many believe that life begins at the heartbeat. This particular theory would make much sense because all animals on this earth have a heart, and therefore a heartbeat. The heartbeat usually occurs around the third week into the pregnancy. The embryo is removed from the uterus wall well before that.
