For a student to get the fullest of their education, it is very important to keep their interest in what they are learning. When a child is younger it is usually very easy to keep a child motivated. However, as a student gets older, he or she may become less motivated. What ways could a child in middle school or high school become increasingly motivated?.
Intrinsic incentive is an aspect of an activity that people enjoy and therefore find motivating. However, as stated above as children get older, their intrinsic motivation decreases. Therefore, it is very important to use extrinsic motivators which enhance learning. Extrinsic motivators or incentives, is a reward that is external to the activity, such as recognition or a good grade. It is very important to use these due to the decrease of intrinsic motivation shown by children.
There are many ways to enhance learning in high school students. One specific way is rewards. Praise and encouragement is always a positive aspect of learning. It keep the child motivated to do well. Also, another way to increase a child's interest in the topic is variety. There are many different ways to present a lesson. For example, a guest speaker, a field trip, an experiment, group work, or a small project. These would all help to increase intrinsic motivation in high school children. .
Also, another way to enhance learning is by giving examples before hand. If a student sees how whatever is being taught will somehow help them in the future, this would be an incentive for them to learn the material. Finally, another way to motivate a student is to give them choices on what they would like to learn. When a child picks out what he or she would like to learn, it gives them more of an interest in whatever that topic may be. These are all ways to enhance a child's education in school. Any of these ways would be positive in enhancing intrinsic motivation.
