a rose for emily w/ trans.

Emily's father and lover were the only two men in her life and after they passed away she finds it hard to let it go, especially the memories of her father. While having that attitude about life Emily secluded herself from society for a very long time. She was alone for the very fist time and her reaction to this situation was to sit back and experience the simple things in life. Choosing to remain alone demonstrated her individual freedoms and refusal to accept societal controls. Emily also refused the modern change that was progressing during her era. For these reasons this book reflects Emily's life as a transcendentalist.
Emily's life became very unpretentious after her father's death. While growing up, Emily was raised in a comfortable environment because her father possessed a lot of money. As a child, Emily had every material thing she could want causing her to be very spoiled and selfish. However, after her father's passing everything began to change. Her father left her with nothing but a run down home that started to decay after a period of time. Even though Emily experienced this huge change from the luxuries of childhood, she did not complain about things or seem to mind living a more simple life. She accepted the earthly simplicity created from her new found poverty and did not overspend on the material extravagancies. Emily spent much time at home alone in her room. The only sign of life about the place was Emily's butler, a young Negro man, going in and out with a market basket. Each time he returned with nothing frivolous, instead bringing only the necessities such as food. Emily's butler assumed control of running the household while Emily spent time to herself and demonstrated her individual freedom to do only what she wanted as well as deciding when she wanted to do it.
After her father's death, Emily become placid as opposed to excited about things. She chose to spend her time alone in reflection and refused to socialize with others from the town.
