This classification report is based on different types of restaurant waiters. In this classification, the term waiter is used to include both males and females as the classes are based only on the waiters' service styles. Waiters, as a whole, are generally similar. There are, however, distinct differences that allow for classification of the group into three types. The three classes of waiters, based on service styles, are the underachieving waiter, the overachieving waiter and the proficient waiter.
The underachieving waiters seem to dislike their job. They do not necessarily have a bad attitude, but their lack of waiter-like duties implies a desire to be elsewhere. Upon being seated, the dining experience with an underachieving waiter usually begins by a long wait for the customary glasses of water. Once that finally happens, there is usually another unnecessarily long wait to place your order, during which you can see that the waiter is not doing anything that should keep him from returning to your table. When they do get around to taking your order, the underachiever provides little or no interaction or suggestions concerning your choices and you are also usually left with the distinct feeling that they got at least part of the order wrong. When your food arrives, you get the added bonus of surprise when you see the waiter's interpretation of your order. .
It is important to request any additional items or refills at this time, as the underachieving waiter tends to stay gone the longest after the food is brought. If you miss this opportunity, you will probably spend most of your dining experience trying to get your waiter's attention and eating ice cubes to quench your thirst. As you finish with different parts of the meal, the empty plates will stay on the table and be in your way. When you are ready to leave and would like the check, you almost have to make a scene to get your waiter's attention.
