             Experiment.
54 students enrolled in sections 9, 21, and 28 of English 15 were given a survey to fill out to find where their thoughts about writing were. The first section entitled Writing as a Study Aid viewed different ideas about using writing to help with class discussions, studying for an exam, and taking notes. The students used the options of strongly agree, mildly agree, and disagree to express their thoughts. The next section called Writing as an Assessment Tool asked such questions as, should all courses (except math) require a paper, professors in non-English courses should grade papers solely on content, and outside research for course papers don't really assess a student's knowledge of the class material. The next section, the writing process, covered questions about how students write their paper and the process they go through to write the paper. The following section discusses the qualities of a good course paper. The possible answers shifted slightly too very important, somewhat important, and unimportant. The questions asked about organization, details, originality, and many other subjects. Then the final part of that section asks about Assignment Instructions, Personal Satisfaction, and Professor's Expectations.
