Bruce Lee was born in November 27 1940, in San Francisco; he was born in the hour of the dragon 6. His father was of Chinese origin, and his mother was of German and Chinese origin, (her mother was Chinese and her father was German.) At three months old he moved with his parents to Hong-Kong.
He appears in his first movie at this age and continues to appear in 20 Cantonese language films before the age of eighteen. In 1952 Lee enters a boys school named La Salle college. At the age of 13 he states that he got into his first fight, and lost, which encouraged him to take up Gung-Fu under thegrandmaster Yip Man of the Wing Chun system.? After achieving outstanding results in his class, he is entered into thecrown colony cha-cha championship? and wins.
Eventually he boards a ship that returns him to America on April 29 1959. After staying briefly in San Francisco, he finally settled in Seattle where he signs in for Edison technical school, he graduates from there in December 1960. He went on to study philosophy at the University of Washington. .
Bruce published his first book in 1963 entitled Chinese Gung Fu: The Philosophical Art of Self-Defence. His personal library contains over 2500 books on topics ranging from Eastern Yoga to Western Psychoanalysis After thoroughly researching the human sciences of kinesiology and physiology, he began to create his own method of self-defence, called Jeet-Kun do. Jeet- kun-do is a style where anyone is able to adapt to, depending on their own ability and fitness. Because of all his extensive research and training, he quickly emerged as the leading martial artist of his generation. Whilst in university, he was challenged by students to fight, his skills when fighting he was envied by many, and others wanted to learn this eastern style of Martial art. He decided to offer lessons on the University grounds to anyone who wished to learn.
Because Gung-Fu was considered to be only of Eastern culture, many disagreed to teach Westerners.
