In Brave New World the author, Aldous Huxley, uses science to keep the inhabitancy of his world down. The masses such as Linda and the Epsilons fallow blindly into the world they are told is the height of technological advancement. Methods such as conditioning lead them to this blind path, they believe their leader unconditionally with out thought other wise. The world leaders in turn used this to their advantage, the leaders created a world that would work more efficiently and put more money in their pocket. Later in the novel Mustapha Mond, the controller, reveals that the society functions only because science is limited. If one is suspected of an over interest in the sciences or not enjoying participating in costly or social events they are sent to a distant island so their infectious ideas will not spread. It is this disregard for advancement of life that John, a savage, can not live with and so eventually ends his life without the medication or the children in death de-sensitivity training. .
The world states motto statesCOMMUNITY, IDENTITY, SATABILITY(Huxley,1).? The masses of people in Huxley's world have been conditioned into their existence, they are taught to be happy in their stationAlpha children wear gray. They work much harder then we do, because they?re so frightfully clever. I'm really awfully glad I'm a Beta, because I don't work so hard. And then we are much better then the Gammas and Deltas. Gammas are stupid. They all wear green, and Delta children wear khaki?Epsilons are still worse. They?re to stupid to be able to.(Huxley,18)? This conditioning leads them in to the false security of being happy with themselves, this of course is the desired effectThe secret to happiness and virtue [is] liking what you?ve got to do (Huxley,10).? They thought the problem before Ford was the fact science did not allow happiness No wonder these poor pre-moderns were mad and wicked and miserable.
