history alive

The past century in history has been one of many triumphs. In the past hundred years we have seen man fly, a feat that many was thought impossible till, two mid-western brothers proved many critics and scientists wrong with their historic flight in the Kill Devil Hills of North Carolina. The past forty have given us man setting foot on ground other than that of the earth's, with the first flight to the moon. We have found cures for diseases that fifty years ago were thought absolute and fatal. And even though I have not witnessed many of these revolutionary events, they have changed mine, and the lives of billions around me.
Revolutions have not come technologically and industrially only. Ten years ago the infamous Berlin Wall, a solid symbol of Communism, was broken down. With a few smashes of a sledge hammer, a country was reunited, a Cold War ended, and many parts of the world discovered freedom for the first time in their lives. .
Even though we have been spectators to many of the greatest changes in history, we have not kept ourselves away from viewing tragedies. The Bolshevik Revolution caused Czarist Russia to be enslaved by plague of Socialism. Wars have been fought more often and have been more deadly. There have been countless terrorism attempts to create World War Three, and many times we have been close to having a full scale nuclear war, which could bring an early and much a more horrific than biblical prophecy, Armageddon. .
True this may gives one a bleak outlook on our future, but for every one horrible event, there have been ten good ones. Mankind should have aglass-is-half-full? prognostication, and not one that believes that we will destroy ourselves. We know, by the past, that wrong is always, in the end, made right. That is the way it has been and, no doubt, will be. The Challenger explosion in the eighties made us look at the safety aspects of space travel. World War Two showed us the destruction made by the atom bomb, letting us figure out we would just be coming closer to destroying ourselves if we used it.
