             When the federal Liberal Party was looking for candidates in Quebec in 1965, Trudeau and two friends, Jean Marchand and Gerard Pelletier, were invited to run in the elections. Of the three, Trudeau was the least known. That group would be known as "The Three Wise Men."" The period of "Trudeaumania- was about to sweep Canada. .

             All three of the men won their federal elections. Trudeau was named Justice Minister and worked closely with then Prime Minister Lester Pearson. He appealed to all walks of life, brought together the different language of the country, and found a way to combine the East and West with a common Canadian bond. In the book Mondo Canuck, Geoff Pevere and Greig Dymond describe Trudeau as "the greatest pop star this country has ever produced."" (O'Malley, Pevere, Dymond) Soon after winning the party leadership, he called for an election, and soundly beat the opposition in 1968. .
             Trudeau made himself accessible to the people of Canada. He quickly became friends with the Canadian media man, Marshall McLuhan. Their bond would last two decades. McLuhan made Trudeau a common figure in the daily lives of all the people. He made Trudeau's image work for the television audience. Until the 1960's - John F. Kennedy first demonstrated it with his win over an earnest but sweaty Richard Nixon- politics was perceived as exclusionary in Canada, or as McLuhan would have said, "hot.""(O'Malley) Trudeau changed the face Canadian politics, making it readily available for the people to understand and exciting. .
