Court System

The court system was created to determine the innocent and the guilty when a conflict has arisen. In many cases it is convicting a criminal for a crime that he or she has committed. The system entitles everyone to a fair trial no matter what the case is and in each trial it is the team that is prosecuting that most prove that if the accused is guilty. Not the accused having to prove their innocence. In my opinion I find this to work in most situations and that this way the there will not be as many mistakes occurring in the courtroom. The system was placed in order that there wouldn't be any mistakes and having the real criminal set free and having an innocent person being sentenced. The Canadian Judicial System looks out for both sides and what they are opted to. The victim in most cases looks to see t hat justice is served to the criminal. The accused looks to try and get another chance in life and to make the court believe that he/she can change.
The court can be unfair to the victim when they are seeking justice, for example when some one is murdered the accused may get away with and get a light sentence of 12 years and a possible probation hearing. When a life is taken away of a close member of the family, you will want to see the murderer pay the full cost of justice. An example of this is Karla Homolka she had received a 12 year sentence and a probation hearing for giving evidence on a series of rapes that had occurred which lead to her husband Paul Bernardo. When the tapes have been found Karla's innocence she had described had all been misleading. This had made a huge controversy when she appeared to be just as involved in the rapes and murders or all the innocent victims. This shows how Canada's system is unfair to the victims and how justice isn't always a guarantee to be served.
The accused though has many disadvantages going into a courtroom especially with a jury. From the movie "12 Angry Men" one quote that stood out and made me think of all courtroom was "you wanted to pull the switch even before he had walked into the courtroom.
