The wind raged and the water poured from the heavens above. Shinji rested by the now raging fire he had built when the storm had started. A noise startled him and he looked up. The once empty watch tower now held him and another, Hatsue. She blushed at the fact that most of her clothing was drying by the fire and as the two eyes met, the world stopped.
The Sound of Waves is a film by Mishima Yukio. Made in 1984, the movie is actually based off of a book published in 1954 called The Sound of Waves, by Mishima Yukio. The movie is about a young fisherman who falls in love with the daughter of the richest man on the islands.
Shinji is a poor fisherman, while Hatsue, recently returned from training as a pearl diver, is the daughter of the richest man in the village. When they fall in love, they encounter gossip spread by two jealous parties. Hatsue is forbidden to see Shinji. But they withstand the unjust torture together.
The theme throughout this movie is truely inspiring. The two youths are destined to be together while many are fighting to keep them apart. They prevailed together in order to be with the one they truely loved. .
I reccomend this movie to mostly adults and mature teenagers. The main reason I say that is because there is slight nudity in one scene of the movie. Other than that I think that it is a very enjoyable film with an inspirational story and unforgettable characters.
