The camera in Nightmare On Elm Street is conventional as it try's to scare you but in scream it is very unconventional as it does not try to hid the identity of the killer. Both techniques work equally well V scares you b6y making you jump and cream scares you because you feel that even with the help of the camera you cannot find the identity of the killer, everyone is a suspect. During scary sequences both films use fast cuts to raise tension which is normal for the genre.
The none digetic sound for both films are conventional for the times, A Nightmare On Elm Street uses creepy music but its techno and sounds like synthesisers had been used, but these techniques where used then .Scream is conventional for today's horror films as they tend to use more heavy music like rock or rap for their soundtracks, several recent examples are Freddy v Jason, Halloween resurrection and resident evil. But the music used in scream uses existing contempry pieces, at one point the remake of Don't fear the reaper is by the googoo dolls is used and this is significant as the original of this sing is used in Halloween which was originally recorded by the blue oyster cult it is also significant as the killer is supposed to look like the grim reaper. This also shows that other films do influence craven and I believe this is him paying homage to john carpenters Halloween. The digetic sound used throughout Nightmare On Elm Streets is very conventional it uses the typical screams, laughs and heavy breathing but it also uses the scraping of Freddy's glove along metal surfaces very effectively as it makes a high pitched painful sound which implies that the knifes aren't going to be used for good, it also alerts you to where Freddy is .The scraping of the gloves is quite original compared to other sounds used in this film. Screams none digetic sounds are screaming and the changing of the killer's voice, the killer uses a speaking device to distort his voice so his identity is hidden, this makes the killers voice creepy which raises tension.
