The aim of the game was to reduce violence in the hood by giving youths something to do and keep them occupied for most of the time. Competitions were held in parks, community halls and other open spaces around the block. .
             Rap caught on because it offered young urban new Yorkers a chance to freely express themselves. It was seen as an art for accessible to any one. One did not need a lot of money, or expensive resources to rhyme. Rapping was a verbal skill that could be practiced and honed to perfection at almost any time.
             Rap also became popular because it offered unlimited challenges. There were few set rules and the main rule was to be original and rhyme on time to the beat of the music. Rap could be about any subject the mc wanted it to be about. .
             And not jus these things but the language the style of dress and the way of expression are all part of the hip-hop culture.
             Hip-hop has grown to be the most powerful influence on young people throughout the world. Hip-hop has grown and transformed itself into a lifestyle, language and means of expression. Over the past several years there has been a rise in the number of hip-hop efforts designed to give back to the community. .
             Since its beginning hip hop music has served as a voice for those oppressed and kept down by the system in which they live. Hip-hop can be used as a way to as a way to keep urban youth out of trouble and off of the streets saving their lives. But it can also be the reasons some lose their lives. Tupac Shakur and Christopher Wallace aka The Notorious B.I.G. were both murdered just a few years ago. The cause was believed to be because of a rivalry between the rappers record labels. These two will probably remain to be seen as two of the greatest rappers to ever live. And there murders still remain unsolved. Hip-hop is more positive than negative. .
             Even though it gets a bad rap and people think that it's all about sex, drugs, and gang violence.
