Antigone: Creon expose

"(Act.1, 93-94) The significance of this statement is that Creon's flaw, his arrogance in being king, he does not care that he has dishonored the dead but only his word be obeyed. Even though deep down Creon knows it is wrong, he will kill his own family and blood. He would not have people see him as a weak ruler, and he if he cannot control his own family how can he control the world.
After Creon's fight with his son, Hamion, he is very angry. He threatens to kill Antigone right then; he changes his mind and decides that it may hurt his image as king. In an almost perverse decision he decides that he will let her die on her own. " I will carry her far away. Out there in the wilderness, and lock her living in a vault of stone. She shall have food, as the custom to absolve the state of her death. And there let her pray to the gods of hell: they are her only gods: perhaps they will show her an escape from death, or she may learn, though late, that piety shown the dead it pity in vain"(Act.1, 141-150) That quote proves that Creon, in defense of his own pride, fears that to take her life would hurt his image. He takes Antigone to the cave to die by what he believes the work of the gods. He figures if the gods want her to live then they will help her find away out and if not then will not be his fault that she died and he cannot be blamed for her death. Creon does not realize that his decisions, based on pride and arrogance, will come back to haunt him and ruin his life.
Later on Creon has a discussion with the blind prophet, Teireias, who will tell him of his fate. Teireias tells Creon of bad thing that could come, but Creon insults him by telling him that he has been easily bought, as are all prophets of this age. Teireias finds this very offensive and get into an argument with Creon and tells him that he does not want to hear the real truth. Creon then states "No doubt speak: Whatever you say you will not change my mind"(Act.
