Firstly, I would just like to say thank you for considering me for this grant. It is such an honor to be chosen as one of the top five finalists.
In five to ten years from now, I see my self teaching at the high school level. I also hope to be happily married and have a family. There are many factors that have helped me conclude that this is the best career for me. To begin with, I love school. During summer vacations, I can't wait to get back to school. It is exciting for me to go to school each day and learn something new. I want to try and get my students to appreciate and take advantage of everything their school/education has to offer them. My teachers have also influenced my decision to be a teacher. All of my teachers have been positive influences and role models in my life. They have always supported me in all of my endeavors and were always there if I had a problem. I too want to have such an important influence in peoples" lives, and teaching would allow me to reach so many. .
There are numerous reasons why I feel that the career of teaching will suit me best. Teachers do not make that much money, but money isn't what motivates me. Many of my friends have chosen careers based on how much they pay, but I just want to have a job that I am happy to go to each day. If I don't enjoy my job, it really doesn't matter how much money I make because I won't be happy. Finally, I want to make a difference. I want to help my students achieve their goals and prepare and support them for whatever they choose to do after high school. Being a teacher would not only enable me to have an impact on so many lives, but it would allow me to be impacted by so many students as well.
