One of the most important vitamins that are stored in the bones is vitamin C, or Calcium. Calcium is a vitamin that helps bones become stronger. The fourth purpose that the skeletal system serves for is to help allow movement. No physical movement could be done without the skeletal system and the muscles. The muscles are attached from bone to bone, and contract which gives it the desired movement. A perfect example of this process is the humerus bone, and the biceps. The bicep muscle is connected to the base of the Ulna and the Humerus bones. Then the muscle contracts and the bones move closer together. This shows how the muscular system and the skeletal system work together to create movement. .
The joint, in each bone that is able to move, plays a very important role in the moving process. The joint is where two bones meet, and allow certain movements. In the skeletal system, there are about six different types of bone joints overall. The first type of bone joint is the hinge joint. The hinge joint is a joint that allows the bone two move back and forth in a single plane. And example of a hinge joint is the knee, the fingers, the elbow, and the toes. The second type of bone joint is the ball-and-socket joint. The ball-and-socket joint is a joint that allows the bone to not only move up, down, left and right, but also to rotate in place. The only balls-and-socket joints in the skeletal system are located on each hipbone, and shoulder bone. The third type of bone joint is the pivot joint. The pivot joint is the joint that only allows the bone to rotate in place against another bone. And example of the pivot joint is the radius at every elbow in the body. The fourth type of bone joint is the ellipsoid joint. The ellipsoid joint, also know as the condyland joint, is a joint that allows the bone to move in two planes, such as up, down, left, and right, but it absolutely dose not allow the bone to rotate in place.
