The war on the western front in 1915 became trench warfare, putting Britain in a bad position. The British had lost the battle at Gallipoli against the Ottomans but refused to give up. When Britain realized that the war was not going anywhere, she talked the Arabs into fighting against the Ottomans for their independence. Britain thought that if the Arabs fought, the Ottomans would get tired of fighting both these forces therefore making it easier for Britain to take over. No I do not think what Britain did to the Arabs was fair because she tricked and lied to them; Britain's refusal to give the Arabs their independence after they fought the Ottomans was wrong. .
Lawrence of Arabia, also known as T.E. Lawrence, a British, helped convince the Arab tribes to fight against the Ottomans in exchange for their independence. The Arabs thought that this was their chance to reach their independence with the help of a powerful country that they could rely on who were supporting them and who they could trust. They were wrong. Britain did not keep her word; instead she created a Sykes-Picot agreement with France, an agreement that divided up the Middle East into different regions to be controlled by either France or Britain. Britain did not realize that by forming these boundaries without taking into consideration the people living in these areas, a lot of problems would arise. .
Britain was wrong being untruthful to the Arabs and not providing them with the independence that was agreed on. Even though Britain put some of the leading Arab families on the throne, that was not enough. Britain was a powerful country with a very good reputation, but that does not make it right for Britain or anyone for that matter, to promise one thing and carry out something else. Britain tricked the Arabs into helping them with the Ottomans and led them to believe that they would be granted independence when all they wanted was to weaken the Ottomans and take over.
