The color purple

The women in the novel start to stand up for themselves by talking back to the men that abuse them. Sofia always stood up for herself and soon after all the men realize and reexamine their actions. By then end Mr. ________ treats Cecile with more respect and understanding. The women stick together in the novel and form strong female relationships. They talk to each other and tell each other stories that allow them to fight back oppression and dominance. They are able to come together as females and show each other love and compassion in where they are surrounded by male violence. There are many female forms in the novel. Some are motherly or sisterly. Others are seen as mentors, others are sexual, and some are just friendship. The females talk with one another and form bonds. There is also some jealousy that arises between Celie and Sofia. Celie gives Harpo advice to beat Sofia. Celie says this because she is jealous that Sofia can stand up to a man which she cannot do. Sofia confronts Celie about the situation and after Sofia and Celie argue about the advice Celie has given Harpo, Sofia signals a peace by suggesting they make a quilt. The quilt has a bunch of different fabrics put together. This symbolizes how diverse people come together in agreement. They used a bright yellow in their quilt and other bright colors which I think represents the freedom that Sofia has with Harpo that women should have. There is a sisterly bond between Nettie and Celie. Nettie keeps writing Celie letters while she was in Africa. She doesn't know if Celie is receiving them but they give Nettie strength to live through the years she spends in Africa. Sofia claims that her ability to fight comes from her strong relationships with her sisters. During Nettie's time in Africa, Samuel notes to her that the Olinka women have a strong relationship between each other. That's how being married to a man which already has other wives make it bearable because of the strong relationships that they already have.
