Jane Eyre-Character Analysis

.
On Helen's deathbed, she lay with her and the two of them fall asleep in each other's arms. It is also assumed that Jane, showing her sense of devotion to her close friend, sends the marble tablet that is delivered to Helen's resting place fifteen years after her death. .
Jane shows her strong feelings through her words with other people in the story. One instance is John Reed throws the book at her and makes her hit her head. "Wicked and cruel boy!" I said. "You are like a murderer - you are like a slave-driver - you are like the Roman emperors!"(pg.13) Jane expresses, with full force, her feelings for John Reed at this time. She compares him to the worst things she can think of. Later, in chapter four, she and Mrs. Reed have a great confrontation after Mr. Broklehurst leaves. "I am not deceitful: if I were, I should say I loved you, but I declare I do not love you: I dislike you the worst of anybody in the world except John reed; and this book about the liar, you may give it to your girl, Georgiana, for it is she who tells lies, and not I."(pg.38) Here, Jane stands up to Mrs. Reed after she tells Mr. Broklehurst that she is a liar. She is angered so greatly by this that she builds up the nerve to release her true feelings on Mrs. Reed. In that same conversation, she gives Mrs. Reed a real piece of her mind and tells her how she really feels about her. "I am glad you are no relation of mine: I will never call you aunt again as long as I live. I will never come to see you when I am grown up; and if any one asks me how I liked you, and how you treated me, I will say the very thought of you makes me sick, and that you treated me with miserable cruelty."(pg.38) Here, she shows a sense of freedom and officially accepts her orphan hood. For all intents and purposes, Jane sort of breaks herself away from the rest of the family and her tyrannical aunt with this single statement. One of the most powerful quotes in the story appears when Jane is telling Bessie about how she will be leaving soon.
