Did you know that North Carolina has 61 threatened and endangered plant and animal species. One species is to blame for all of the torment and death. Humans are the cause to blame for all of these innocent animals dieing. It is hard to believe that because one species (humans) has thrived in the past 2000 years that millions of animals and plants have suffered. Habitat Destruction, Introduction of Exotic Species, and Overexploitation are just 3 reasons why this tragedy has happened.
Earth has and always will be changing until now it has mostly been natural changes. Natural changes mostly occur slowly, thus giving time for animals to adapt. But, when change takes place quickly, there is little or no time for individual species to react and adapt to new things. The results can be horrifying, and for this reason, rapid habitat loss is the primary cause of species endangerment. Of course the thing that is most altering to and environment are changes done by humans. I don't think you could find one area on the face of the entire earth that the region has not been affected in a negative way by humans. The past 100 years has been the worst in the entire existence for human disturbance. The loss of microbes in soils that used to be supported by tropical forests, the extinction of fish and various aquatic species in polluted habitats and changes in global climate brought about by the release of greenhouse gases are all results of human activity.
It is sometimes hard to find the effects that we have on individual species. It is hard to identify or predict human effects on individual species and habitats especially during a human lifetime. But it is quite apparent that human activity has greatly contributed to species endangerment. For example, although tropical forests may look as though they are lush, they are actually highly susceptible to destruction. This is because the soils in which they grow are lacking in nutrients.
