True Son believes he is an Indian. But is he? Actally he was taken captive when he was about 2-4 years old. He has been with them for about 10 years. Now True Son is with his American family in Pennsylvania.
For quite a few days, word has it that English soldiers are coming to take away the Indians that are truly white girls and boys. Never did True Son think it was him. However, that's only what he thinks. It turns out tha True Son isn't Indian and is a white boy.
True Son is brought back to Pennsylvania. On the way, True Son's two Indian friends, Half Arrow and Little Crane, talk to him about how dim-witted white men are and how uc more superior Indians are. Nevertheless, they had to go away because the white soldiers would have killed them otherwise.
When True Son arrived in Paxton County, he was immediately brought to his parents, Harold and Myra Butler, his Aunt Kate, and his younger brother, Gordie. He has been informed that his white name is John C. Butler.
When "John" sleeps in his bed, he feels too far away from his mother earth, and that he is trapped from the natural atmosphere. He doesn't feel right, and that he is surrounded by his white enemies, especially when his family comes to visit. Uncle Wilse talks bad about Indians in front of True Son, and that he is fortunate he was rescued from them. True Son hates him for that and decides to not say another word to anyone.
Now he decides to walk to Corn Blade to speak Lenni Lenape with him. Unfortunately, his father and Uncle Wilse stop him and tell him that Corn Blade had passed awa many years ago. He is determined to escape.
When Uncle Wilse and Mr. Butler left True Son under a tree, he ran away. Myra was so woried. She had the Parson and Aunt Kate come to have a word with hr. True Son was standing at the door. They called him in and told him to sit down. He sat on the floor. The Parson said it was rude to do that and disrespect his mother.
